India records 16,047 new Covid-19 cases, 54 deaths in 24 hours

Covid-19 cases in India: The total active cases declined further to 128,261, while cumulative recovery count rose by 19,539 discharges.

India witnessed a 26% rise in its daily Covid cases, with as many as 16,047 people testing positive in the last 24 hours – as against 12,751 people a day ago – taking the national caseload to 44,190,697, the Union health ministry's dashboard showed on Wednesday.

The data also showed that the total count of active patients declined further to 128,261, while total recoveries went up by 19,539 discharges to 43,535,610. The cumulative death toll due to the infectious disease, meanwhile, is at 526,826, of which 54 fatalities took place in the last 24 hours.

Discharges, deaths and active patients account for 98.52%, 1.19% and 0.29% of the overall tally.

Also, the daily positivity rate was recorded at 4.94%, while the weekly positivity rate was at 4.90%. The total number of samples tested since the beginning of the pandemic rose to over 878 million, including 325,081 in the last 24 hours.

The coverage under the nationwide vaccination expanded further to more than 2.07 billion doses, of which 1,521,429 were administered on Tuesday. The mega inoculation exercise commenced on January 16 last year.
