"Siddaramaiah, after completing his seven and half years almost eight years now he is resigning…From day one the date was fixed for period sharing between Siddaramaiah and D. K. Shivakumar and D. K. Shivakumar was making it very clear from day one that he is going to take over after 50% of the term,” Bommai said.

"He further alleged internal rift and governance failure in the Congress government, adding, “Siddaramaiah did not have a period of peaceful governance… Administration was totally failed as well as development was not to be seen and the debt of the government has increased four times.”

Karnataka CM news LIVE: Speculations are that Siddaramaiah will announce his stepping down from the CM post to make way for Shivakumar, possibly at the breakfast meeting, news agency PTI reported.

According to CMO sources, the CM sought the Governor's appointment after the party high command apparently asked him to make way for a leadership change in the state. He also said he will speak on the matter on Thursday.

However, Lok Bhavan sources said Siddaramaiah has not yet sought time to meet Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, who he has left for his native, Indore, for personal reasons.

Four Rajya Sabha seats from Karnataka, including one currently held by Kharge, are set to go to polls in June. The Congress is expected to win at least three.

Home minister G Parameshwara, whose name has occasionally surfaced in discussions around the top post, said, “The party high command called the chief minister, he met with the Congress president, Rahul Gandhi and general secretaries at the AICC headquarters for about three to four hours. What was discussed inside, none of us know. There is a lot of speculation in the media,” as per PTI.
