DMK president M Karunanidhi faced a ‘transient setback’ in his clinical condition and his vital signs are normalising with medical support, Chennai’s Kauvery hospital said on Sunday.
Huge security has been deployed outside the hospital to control the overflowing crowd and senior party leader A Raja appealed to people to not believe in rumours.
Karunanidhi was shifted to the hospital two days ago prior to which he was undergoing treatment for fever due to urinary tract infection at his Gopalapuram residence.

Karunanidhi stable, says Stalin
MK Stalin says, “He continues to be under keen observation of the doctors. M Karunanidhi’s condition is stable as stated in yesterday’s medical bulletin.”
Sri Lankan president Sirisena’s representatives visit hospital
Representatives of Sri Lanka President, Maithripala Sirisena, visited Kauvery hospital to meet Karunanidhi. They submitted a letter from Sirisena to Stalin wishing a speedy recovery to the former Tamil Nadu chief minister.

“DMK chief’s health condition is stable. He is well. A medical team is attending on him. Me and deputy chief minister O Panneerselvam along with DMK party working president M K Stalin and Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi visited him in person,” said Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswami after visiting Karunanidhi earlier in the day.
Karunanidhi moving hands, has opened his eyes: DMK spokesperson
DMK spokesperson TKS Elangovan has told IANS that the 94-year-old leader has been moving his hands and legs and also opened his eyes.
Hospital sources also say that Karunanidhi has moved his hands and legs and also opened his eyes after he was admitted in the ICU.

A medical bulletin is yet to be issued today, reports PTI.
A medical bulletin issued by Kauvery Hospital on Sunday had said that, “There was a transient setback in the clinical condition of DMK president M Karunanidhi. With active medical support his vital signs are normalising.”

Team of doctors continuously monitoring Karunanidhi
“There has been an unexpected setback in the health of Karunanidhi. But after critical medical care, he is normalising. A team of doctors is continuously monitoring and treating him,” MK Stalin, Karunanidhi’s son, had said on Sunday.

Do not believe in rumours: DMK leader A Raja
DMK leader and former Union Minister A Raja told reporters at hospital premises on Sunday to not believe in rumours.
“He continues to be treated at the ICU,” he had announced which was greeted with loud cheers by the crowd who had gathered in large numbers outside the hospital.
Give us our Thalaiva back: Karunanidhi’s supporter
Karunanidhi’s supporters outside the Kauvery Hospital urge the hospital staff to update them about the leader’s health condition.
“For the past three days, we have been waiting here without food and water. We don’t want anything, give us our Thalaiva back. Why has nothing been said on him yet? We want him back,” a supporter of Karunanidhi tells ANI.

On Sunday night, heavy security had to been deployed at the hospital and police caned the crowd briefly in an attempt to disperse supporters and DMK workers, who shouted slogans in Karunanidhi’s praise.
