Man batters cabbie to death with baseball bat in Ghaziabad
The police said they have registered a case of murder and also levied provisions of the SC/ST Act against the suspect who is presently on the run.
In an incident of road rage in Khoda, a 35-year-old cab driver was allegedly battered to death with a baseball bat by his neighbour after their cars allegedly brushed past each other in a small lane near their house on Wednesday night.
The police said they have registered a case of murder and also levied provisions of the SC/ST Act against the suspect who is presently on the run.
According to the family of the victim Lakhan Singh, he was returning home and had entered the lane around 11pm on Wednesday. They said, another car, driven by their neighbour Mohit Yadav brushed past Singh’s vehicle.
“After that minor incident, the suspect pulled out a baseball bat and started beating up Singh. He sustained severe injuries to his chest and back and two blows to head, which proved fatal. He was rushed to a local hospital and later to a referral hospital, but he died while being taken there,” Aparna Gautam, assistant superintendent of police (Indirapuram), said.
The police said due to the influence of Yadav and his family, none of their neighbours came forward to give a police statement and a complaint was given only when the victim’s brothers arrived from Aligarh on Thursday.“The suspect is on the run and is aged about 24 years. All men from his family are also on the run. We have formed teams to trace him and he will be nabbed soon. A case was registered against him for murder and we also levied provisions of the SC/ST Act. The victim was crying for help and also asking the suspect why he was beating him up. But he paid no heed and kept bashing him up,” Gautam said.
Singh’s brother Roop Kishor said his brother was staying at the rented house for the past 2-3 years.
“He has three minor children and wife. Around 4-5 days ago, he left his wife and children at our village in Aligarh and returned to Khoda. He never had any altercation with any neighbour. No one came forward to speak against the suspect who was beating up my brother,” Kishor said.
