Manipur Police seize 49.5 kg opium in Senapati, vehicle owner arrested

Manipur Police have seized 49.5 kg of opium in Senapati district, an official statement said on Tuesday.

A police team conducting naka checking at T Khullen along Imphal-Dimapur NH-2 on Sunday morning signalled a four-wheeler to stop, but the vehicle sped away.

The police team chased the vehicle and later found it abandoned at some distance.

On scrutiny, the team found 49 packets of opium weighing a total of 49.5 kg concealed in compartments of the floor of the vehicle.

Police also seized the identity documents of the owner of the vehicle, following which he was arrested.

A case has been registered, and efforts are being made to trace and arrest the driver of the vehicle as well, the police statement added.
