The lawyer, Surender Malik, was rushed to hospital for treatment. He received injuries on his eyes. Police rushed to the spot and started investigation into the matter.
Reports said Malik was studying a client’s case in chamber number 71 around 8am when two men with their faces covered entered the chamber and threw acid on him before fleeing on a motorcycle.
Angry over the incident, the victim’s fellow lawyers suspended work and blocked the Sonipat-Gohana road for a while. They lifted the blockade after Sonepat superintendent of police (SP) Ashwin Shenvi, who reached the spot with heavy police force, assured them of action against the culprits.
Talking to mediapersons, SP Shenvi said, “Teams have been formed to nab the accused. The police have started investigation into the matter and we will arrest the accused soon.”
The district Bar association demanded strict action against those behind the incident and also demanded proper security in the court complex.
