More chilling details about the gruesome murder of Meerut merchant navy officer Saurabh Rajput have tumbed out.

During police interrogation, the accused wife, Muskan Rastogi, and her lover, Sahil Shukla, revealed the reason why they cut the victim's body into pieces.

According to a report by India TV, both the accused have confessed to mutilating the victim's body to make identification difficult. The duo admitted to severing Saurabh's wrists to prevent police from identifying him through the fingerprints.

Sahil and Muskan further revealed they slit Saurabh's throat and decapitated him, believing that a headless body would make it harder to trace the victim's identity, the report added.

The forensic team working on the case also found blood stains all over the crime scene, including on the bed sheets, pillows, as well as on the tiles and the water tap in the bathroom.

Investigators also recovered the suitcase from the crime scene, which Muskan and Sahil intended to use to dispose of the body. However, the duo allegedly abandoned the plan as the body did not fit inside the suitcase. The attempt led to bloodstains inside the suitcase.

The Saurabh Rajput murder case

The Saurabh Rajput murder came to light last week when the police found the merchant navy officer’s body inside a blue drum in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut. The murder was allegedly planned and executed by Saurabh’s wife, Muskan Rastogi, and her lover, Sahil Shukla.

The duo allegedly killed the victim on March 4 and sealed the chopped parts of his body in the drum with sand and cement.

Muskan and Sahil were arrested by the Meerut police in connection with the case and produced in a court, where lawyers attacked them.

According to PTI, Muskan was planning the murder for a long time to get Saurabh out of her way and marry Sahil. When the victim returned from his job in London, the duo executed their plan and killed him.

Muskan's parents have called their daughter unfit for society and asked for the death penalty to be given to her and the other accused.
