Mumbai rains LIVE updates: Traffic on the Pune-to-Mumbai carriageway of the Pune-Mumbai Connecting Link Road was diverted from 4 am on Monday after a landslide near the exit of Tunnel 2 amid extremely heavy rainfall, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) said. In a post on X, the MSRDC said the diversion was implemented as a precautionary measure and that officials are closely monitoring the situation in coordination with the Highway Traffic Police. No casualties or injuries have been reported so far.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced that compensation of ₹4 lakh would be provided to the families of those who died when two to three shanties within a "ground-plus-three" structure collapsed in Janata Nagar, Mankhurd, State Minister Girish Mahajan said on Monday, as per ANI.

“Heavy rainfall which has been continuous since yesterday and throughout this morning across Mumbai and its outskirts, has led to this collapse. There were six people inside the building--four children and two adults--and all six have lost their lives. Teams from the municipal corporation, the police, and the NDRF are currently on-site, working at the scene. I do not believe there were any more than these six people involved,” Mahajan said.

“This is a slum area where structures have been built... however, due to the heavy rain, the entire building has collapsed. A thorough investigation will be conducted to determine how the building was constructed, why it was built this way, and whether the necessary permissions were granted,” he said.

“The CM has announced that the government will provide compensation of ₹4 lakh to the relatives of each of the deceased,” he added.

Following a 'Red Alert' issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warning of extremely heavy rainfall, the Pune district administration declared a holiday for all schools across the district on Monday as a precautionary measure for the safety of students, as per ANI.

In an X post, Pune Municipal Corporation also appealed to citizens to avoid stepping out of their homes unless absolutely necessary, stay away from rivers, streams and other dangerous locations, and strictly follow instructions issued by the local administration from time to time.

Meanwhile, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) announced on Sunday that all government, private and civic body-run schools and colleges in Mumbai will remain closed on July 6 (Monday), after the IMD issued an 'orange alert' forecasting heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds.

Thane District Collector Shrikrishnath Panchal also announced that Anganwadis, Balwadis, primary schools and secondary schools will remain shut in the district on Monday.

NMMC also announced the closure of all schools on Monday for the safety of students amid incessant rain, as per ANI.

Six people died after two to three shanties within a “ground-plus-three” structure collapsed in Janata Nagar, Mankhurd, on Sunday evening, amid relentless heavy rainfall battering Mumbai and its suburbs.

Reacting to the incident, Maharashtra Samajwadi Party President Abu Azmi slammed the government over the construction of shanties in the area, “How did shanties continue to spring up? The year 2000 arrived, and those built by then were legalised; later, those built up to 2011 were also legalised. This implies that illegal shanties kept coming up after 1995. These are poor people; when they feel their family has grown and they lack the funds for proper housing, they build illegally. However, had the government been strict, not even an inch of unauthorised construction would have been possible. The government itself had declared that no shanties would be built after 1995. So, whose responsibility is it that they were built? How many officials have you suspended? I am urging the House to put a stop to these illegal activities,” he said, as per ANI.

A fire broke out at Bank of Baroda, Lohar Chawl, Mangaldas Market, Mumbai, at 10:52pm on July 5.

The Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) declared it a Level 1 fire at 11:30pm.

According to the update, the fire is spread across an area of approximately 2,000 sq ft on the first floor of the ground-plus-upper-one-floored structure, and smoke has logged in the area.

BMC's MFB, police, BEST, BMC's ward staff and 108 ambulance were mobilized to the site. No injuries have been reported so far.

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and former Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar questioned the civic administration's preparedness and called for accountability over the Kurla tree-fall death, as per ANI.

Speaking to ANI, Pednekar said, “The court has strongly criticised the situation and observed that merely paying compensation after a death is not enough; greater effort should be made beforehand, which is currently lacking... Furthermore, a case should be registered against the officials responsible for the CC road construction as well as the contractor involved. Meanwhile, the hospital authorities acknowledge the incident and say they are looking into the matter.”

Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde on Sunday announced immediate financial assistance of ₹5 lakh for the family of 63-year-old Yunus Kundawala, who died after a tree branch fell on him in Kurla West, and directed the BMC to conduct a city-wide tree audit, as per ANI.

“We will not support the municipal administration in any wrongdoing. An inquiry will be conducted to determine why this was overlooked. For now, we have announced financial assistance of ₹5 lakh for the family, and as Mayor, I, along with the entire BMC, stand in solidarity with them,” she told ANI.

Tawde also said, “An audit of the trees is indeed necessary. As Mayor, I held a review meeting to call for an audit of all trees across the BMC area, including those alongside CC (cement concrete) roads and the city's older trees aged 50-60 years or more. We have also ordered an audit of all manholes to check for covers and safety grilles.”

Mumbai BJP chief Ameet Satam reiterated the BJP's demand on Sunday to register a case of “culpable homicide” against those responsible for the death of a man who fell into a manhole in Sakinaka on Friday, as per ANI.

Speaking to ANI, Satam said, “Our Health Committee Chairman, Harish Bhandirge, wrote two letters to the concerned ward officer identifying specific locations where tree trimming was required; a reminder was also sent on July 1. Despite this, the administration remains insensitive... We now demand that the administration register a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder against them.”

Aslam Isak Shaikh, 55, fell into an open manhole in Sakinaka, Andheri East, during heavy rainfall on Friday.

As per the BMC, Mumbai recorded over 265 mm of rainfall in the city and over 227 mm in the suburbs during the 24-hour period ending at 6pm on Sunday.

Congress leader Sachin Sawant blamed the arrogance of absolute power in BJP leaders for tragedies like the Mankhurd building collapse.

“The BJP led BMC administration is responsible for the rain related accidents and death of people. There is no sense of accountability in BJP and it's resulting in administration failure,” Sawant said.

An 18-year-old motorcyclist and a senior citizen lost their lives in tree-collapse incidents in Mumbai on Sunday, as per PTI.

A tree collapsed on a shop near the Hindi BMC School in Kurla West's Naupada locality around 12:40pm, killing Yunus Kundawala, who was declared brought dead at Fauzia Hospital, civic officials said.

In a separate incident, 18-year-old Kamar Hasan Raza Jahangir Alam Syed died after a tree branch fell on his head while he was riding a motorcycle with friends in the Aarey Colony area of Goregaon East on Saturday, as per PTI.

BMC officials said 203 complaints of tree and branch falls were registered across Mumbai between 8am and 6pm on Sunday.

A house collapse incident was reported at Chawl No 5, Janta Nagar, behind Hanuman Mandir, Mankhurd, at 8:30 pm on July 5. As per the latest update, Two to three huts of a ground-plus-three structure collapsed in the incident.

BMC's Mumbai Fire Brigade, police, BMC's ward staff and 108 ambulance were mobilized to the site.

As per information received from Shatabdi Hospital, 5 injured were reported:

1. Aliya (female) 7 years
2. Muskan (female) 14 years
3. Nihal (male) 6 years
4. Nabiya (female) 2 years
5. Soni (female) 32 years

All five were declared brought dead.

As per information received from Rajawadi Hospital, 2 injured were reported:

1. Munaf (male) 7 years, was declared dead.
2. Rehan Alli (male) 24 years, was admitted to Rajawadi Hospital and is in stable condition.

A tree fell on a road at BDD Chawl, opposite Ambedkar Bhavan in Worli, on 05 July 2026 at 19:38 hrs. Two people were injured in the incident.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Mumbai has issued an Orange Warning nowcast for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, and Raigad districts. The warning was issued at 2200 hrs IST on 05 July 2026 and is valid for the next three hours.

As per the warning, moderate spells of rain with gusty winds reaching 50-60 kmph are very likely to occur at isolated places in these districts.

The University of Mumbai has postponed all examinations scheduled for 06 July 2026. The decision was taken in view of the heavy rainfall and torrential rain warning issued by the India Meteorological Department, and to prioritize student safety, as per a circular issued by the university's Board of Examinations and Evaluation on 05 July 2026.

The revised schedule for these examinations will be published soon on the University of Mumbai's official website. Students have been advised to regularly check the university's website for updates.

According to preliminary information, two to three tenements caved in, and people are suspected to be trapped under the debris.

Personnel from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's Fire Brigade, police, BMC ward staff and the 108 ambulance service have been deployed to the site, where rescue operations are underway. No injuries had been reported at the time of the latest update.

Delhi rains LIVE Updates: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast moderate to heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, across several parts of the national capital on Sunday. Rainfall intensity is expected to range between 5 mm and 20 mm per hour.

The weather office said wind speeds of 40-50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph, are likely over South East Delhi, East Delhi, Shahdara, Central Delhi, North East Delhi, South Delhi, New Delhi, South West Delhi, West Delhi, North West Delhi and North Delhi.
