Delhi rains LIVE Updates: Four flights were cancelled and 13 others were diverted due to heavy rain in Mumbai on Sunday, airport officials said. All diverted flights have since returned to Mumbai.

A spokesperson for Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport said runway operations were temporarily suspended at around 10.17 am because of adverse weather conditions, including heavy rain, reduced visibility and gusty winds of up to 42 knots.

"As per procedure, runway operations were temporarily suspended to ensure the safety of passengers, aircraft and ground personnel," the spokesperson said.

Following an improvement in weather conditions, normal runway operations resumed at 11.17 am. The suspension remained in effect for about 60 minutes.

Delhi rains LIVE Updates: Delhi-NCR experiences a sudden change in weather conditions on Sunday, with rain sweeping across parts of the city.

Hourly forecasts indicate that strong thunderstorms are possible throughout the afternoon and evening hours.

Current meteorological reports confirm that the city is dealing with a mix of high humidity and fluctuating temperatures, creating a stark contrast to the hot and highly humid air persisting across various parts of the city.

While the temperature hovered at 28°C in some areas by early afternoon, other parts of the region recorded temperatures between 34°C and 36°C.

According to the India Meteorological Department, as of 1:00 PM on Sunday, New Delhi is experiencing pleasant weather with a current temperature of 28°C, though conditions are accompanied by rain and thunder.

The weather department confirmed that Delhi experienced very light to light rain at a few places, with moderate rainfall occurring in isolated areas over the past 24 hours. During this same period, the city recorded minimum temperatures ranging from 26°C to 29°C, while maximum temperatures reached between 35°C and 36°C.

The report further notes that minimum temperatures have been above normal at isolated places, whereas maximum temperatures remained below normal across several areas. Additionally, southeasterly winds with speeds of 10-15 kmph prevailed over Delhi, with gusts reaching 37 kmph at Palam. There will be no large change in maximum temperatures over the next 24 hours, followed by a gradual fall of 2-3°C over the subsequent two days.

Mumbai rains LIVE: Heavy rains and gusty winds forced Mumbai international airport authorities to suspend all runway operations for an hour on Sunday, severely disrupting flight services at the facility.

The closure at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, which lasted from 10.17 am to 11.17 am, affected several inbound and outbound flights, leaving passengers to grapple with an average departure delay of 75 minutes and arrivals by at least 28 minutes.

According to the live flight-tracking website, flightradar24.com, 87 per cent of the flights were delayed at the airport, while another 62 per cent arrived late.

"At approximately 10.17 am, adverse weather conditions, including strong gusty winds of up to 42 knots and reduced visibility due to heavy rain, impacted runway operations. As per procedure, runway operations were temporarily suspended to ensure the safety of passengers, aircraft and ground personnel," the Mumbai International Airport Ltd said in a statement.

Following an improvement in weather conditions, normal runway operations resumed after an hour, it said.

The airport, jointly owned by the Adani Group and Airports Authority of India, however, declined to share the number of cancelled or delayed flights at its facility.

According to Air Traffic Control (ATC) sources, the airport handles 980 to 1,000 flights a day, with an average of 48 air traffic movements - 24 arrivals and 24 departures per hour.

As per data from flightradar24.com, 3 per cent of city-bound flights were cancelled due to weather conditions.

Weather news LIVE updates: The IMD on Sunday forecast light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds across Jharkhand over the next four days.

The weather office issued a 'yellow' alert (be updated) for isolated thunderstorms and lightning across all 24 districts from July 6 to 9.

Light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds with speeds of 40-50 kmph is likely across the state during this period, the IMD said.

According to the IMD bulletin, Garhwa, Palamu, Chatra, Hazaribag, Latehar, Lohardaga, Gumla and Ranchi districts are likely to receive heavy rainfall on Monday.

On Tuesday, eight northeastern districts Giridih, Dhanbad, Jamtara, Deoghar, Dumka, Pakur, Godda and Shaibganj are expected to witness heavy rain, while five districts are likely to receive heavy showers on Wednesday.

Weather news LIVE updates: Several parts of Kerala received rain on Sunday as the IMD forecast isolated heavy showers in the northern districts and issued orange and yellow alerts for various parts of the state over the next three days.

A yellow alert has been issued for Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts for Sunday, indicating the possibility of isolated heavy rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in 24 hours.

The India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for the Kannur and Kasaragod districts on July 6, and for the Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts on July 7, forecasting isolated very heavy rainfall of 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm in 24 hours.

In view of the weather warnings, the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority urged people living in landslide, mudslide and flash flood-prone areas to shift to safer places as directed by the authorities.

Weather news LIVE updates: A well-marked low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal has intensified into a depression that could bring heavy rain in Odisha and West Bengal over the next few days.

All Odisha districts have been put on high alert over the development.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said the low-pressure area over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of Odisha-West Bengal coasts concentrated into a depression and lay centred 50 km south-southeast of Balasore and south-southwest of Digha. It said the system is very likely to cross the north Odisha coast between Chandbali and Digha over the next day.

The IMD issued a red warning -- the highest level of colour-coded warning -- for heavy to very heavy rainfall in Sambalpur, Angul, Boudh, Sonepur and Kandhamal. An 'orange' alert, asking people to be prepared to take action in case of any calamity, was issued in 19 other districts and a 'yellow' warning for six other districts.

Under the influence of the low pressure, the sea is very likely to be rough to very rough from July 5 to July 7, and fisherfolk have been advised not to venture into the sea during the period.

Mumbai rain LIVE: Mumbai local train services across all four corridors remain operational on Sunday, even as the city battles intense monsoon showers and gusty winds. While the suburban network is functioning as scheduled, authorities have cautioned commuters to exercise extra vigilance while travelling.

Speaking to ANI, Chief Public Relations Officer, Central Railway, Swapnil Nila, informed that all 4 railways are operating normally, with the minor effect of the rain having primarily impacted about 8 to 10 long-distance trains operating from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus and Lokmanya Tilak Terminus.

Swapnil Nila said, "...Despite the heavy rain and strong winds, all 4 railway corridors - Main Line, Harbour, Trans-Harbour, and the Central Line are operating normally. We urge passengers to step out of their homes only if necessary. When you do go out, please ensure you have appropriate protective gear...strictly adhere to all advisories issued by the railways or local authorities...the effect of the rain has primarily impacted about 8 to 10 long-distance trains operating from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus and Lokmanya Tilak Terminus...we expect these services to continue operating normally and to transport passengers safely to their destinations...the authorities, whether railway or local, are constantly working to ensure safety and security..."

Chhattisgarh rains LIVE updates: Severe waterlogging hit several parts of Raipur on Sunday following overnight rainfall, with water levels rising to knee-deep in some areas and waist-deep in others, residents said.

Filthy water entered many homes, damaging belongings and forcing families to stay awake through the night to ensure the safety of children and elderly members.

Several neighbourhoods in the city turned into ponds after the rain. Along with streets being submerged, two to three feet of water entered houses. From around 2 AM, residents were seen bailing out water and trying to secure their possessions. Many families went without sleep and meals, and some even struggled to access drinking water.

Local resident Raju Verma criticised the administration for failing to find a permanent solution to the recurring monsoon flooding.

Mumbai rain LIVE: A 63-year-old man was killed on Sunday after a tree collapsed on a shop during heavy rainfall in Mumbai's Kurla area, making it the city's second fatal tree-fall incident in less than a week, civic officials said.

The incident occurred around 12.40 pm near the Hindi BMC School in the Naupada locality of Kurla West, they said.

The victim, Yunus Kundawala, was extricated from the debris and rushed to Fauzia Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead, an official said.

He said that the fire brigade, police, BEST and civic staff rushed to the spot and carried out the rescue and clearance operations.

This incident has come days after an 11-year-old boy was similarly killed and several others were injured after a tree uprooted and fell onto a moving school bus in Chembur on June 30.

Thane rain LIVE: Relentless rains over the past 48 hours crippled life across Thane district in Maharashtra, causing waterlogging, tree falls and a gallery collapse at a building in which two persons were injured, officials said on Sunday.

The Thane Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) received 93 complaints during the last 24 hours, including 24 instances of tree falls, 22 branch falls, 24 of waterlogging, 8 compound wall collapses, and one landslide incident, they said.

Several low-lying areas in Thane city, Kalyan, Bhiwandi, Ulhasnagar, Dombivli, and Navi Mumbai were flooded, leaving numerous residents marooned, they said.

The weather office has predicted heavy rains in the region over the next two days.

A portion of a first-floor gallery collapsed at the 45-year-old two-storey Tiwari Bhawan building at Kisan Nagar in the Wagle Estate area here on Saturday night, RDMC chief Yasin Tadvi said.

Two passersby, identified as Noori Islam Sheikh (65) and Suresh Thapa (36), sustained injuries. Sheikh, who suffered head and shoulder injuries, is currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital, he said.

"Following the incident, the entire building was evacuated as a safety precaution due to the precarious state of the remaining gallery structure. A family residing in the terrace flat has been shifted to a temporary civic shelter at a TMC School," Tadvi said.

IMD keeps red alert in place: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Mumbai, forecasting very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places on Sunday.

Over 300 mm rainfall recorded: Several parts of Mumbai received more than 200 mm of rain in the last 24 hours, with Vikhroli West recording the highest at 310.6 mm.

BMC urges people to stay indoors: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has appealed to residents to step out only if absolutely necessary and remain alert amid continuing heavy rain.

High tide warning issued: The BMC has cautioned citizens about a 4.19-metre high tide at 3.22 pm on Sunday and another 3.51-metre high tide early Monday, increasing the risk of flooding.

Strong winds expected: Along with heavy rain, the IMD has forecast gusty winds of 55–65 kmph across Mumbai and its suburbs.

Roads flooded, trees uprooted: Torrential rain led to waterlogging, tree falls, road cave-ins and house collapses, disrupting normal life across the city.

Transport services impacted: While Metro and BEST bus services were operating normally on Sunday morning, suburban train services witnessed delays due to the persistent rainfall.

Neighbouring cities also affected: Heavy rain disrupted life in Thane, Navi Mumbai, Palghar and Pune, triggering landslides, flooded roads and evacuations in some areas.

Several locations crossed 200 mm mark: Areas including Colaba, Malabar Hill, Andheri, Powai, Jogeshwari, Goregaon, Chakala and Bhandup recorded over 200 mm of rainfall in 24 hours.

Emergency helpline activated: The BMC has asked residents to follow official advisories and contact its 1916 helpline in case of emergencies as authorities remain on high alert.

Mumbai weather LIVE: Heavy overnight rain lashed Mumbai and neighbouring cities, easing slightly by morning even as the IMD on Sunday kept a red alert in place with forecasts of continued downpours and isolated extremely heavy showers, civic officials said.

In view of the forecast, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has appealed to people to remain alert and venture outdoors only if absolutely necessary.

Several areas recorded more than 200 mm of rainfall, while a few areas logged a whopping 300 mm of downpour in the last 24 hours.

Mumbai weather LIVE: BMC has recorded more than 200mm of rainfall at several locations across Mumbai during the 24 hours ending at 8am on Sunday, with a couple of places receiving over 300mm of rainfall.

The highest rainfall of 310.6 mm was recorded at the Building Proposal Office in Vikhroli West, followed by Colaba Pumping Station (306.6 mm) and Tagore Nagar Municipal School in Vikhroli (301.8 mm).

According to BMC data, areas receiving more than 200mm included Malabar Hill, Mandavi Fire Station, Colaba, Memonwada Fire Station, Vikhroli Fire Station, Paspoli Municipal School in Powai, Bhandup Complex, Andheri Fire Station, Chakala Municipal School, Jogeshwari and Aarey Colony in Goregaon.

Maharashtra rains LIVE: A massive landslide on the road leading to Rajmachi Fort completely blocked vehicular movement in Lonavala on Sunday. Earth movers were deployed to carry out the debris clearance operations, traffic and local police said.

This came as Maharashtra witnessed a strong morning spell of rain lashing several parts of the state amid the 'Red Alert' issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) today.

The IMD also forecasted a "generally cloudy sky with moderate rain" to continue across the district till 10th July in Tehsil Mawal in Maharashtra's Pune district.

The Pawana River in the Ravet locality of Pimpri-Chinchwad was gushing as the area received heavy rainfall.

Meanwhile, the Kondhwa area of Pune felt relief as local markets carried a vibrant hue in the light rain

While Mumbai's Worli area witnesses an overcast morning, mist covered the area around Marine Drive amid the downpour.

Earlier, a balcony of a dilapidated building in Belapur village, Navi Mumbai, collapsed amid continuous heavy rainfall. It is reported that the building was in a severely dilapidated state.

Delhi rain LIVE: The weather department issued an orange alert for parts of the capital after heavy rainfall lashed Delhi on Sunday.

Mumbai weather LIVE: Mumbai witnessed one of the heaviest spells of rain this monsoon over the past 24 hours, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a Red Alert for Sunday and warn of continued heavy to extremely heavy rainfall accompanied by gusty winds.

The city recorded over 190 mm of average rainfall across its three regions, while several areas received more than 250 mm of rain, raising concerns over waterlogging and disruption as a high tide is expected later in the day.

IMD’s 8 am forecast predicted moderate to intense spells of rain at isolated places in Mumbai and neighbouring Raigad over the next three hours. The weather office also said continuous rainfall is likely across the city and suburbs through the day, with very heavy rain at a few places and extremely heavy rain at isolated locations. Gusty winds reaching speeds of 55-65 kmph are also expected.

The city received exceptionally heavy rainfall over the past 24 hours. Between 8 am on Saturday and 8 am on Sunday, the average rainfall recorded was 194 mm in the island city, 217 mm in the eastern suburbs, and 186 mm in the western suburbs.

That Delhi did not receive much rain on the day IMD declared monsoon onset over Delhi can be seen by looking at the rainfall different weather stations in Delhi received in the 24 hours ending 08:30 AM on July 2, the standard 24-hour period for which daily rain is calculated in India. Of the 11 weather stations, four received less than 2mm rain, three received 2-3 mm rain, another three received 4-5 mm rain, and only one -- Chattarpur – received 18.5 mm rain. 24-hour rain in the 0.1-2.4 mm range is called “very light rain”. Similarly, “light rain” is the category for rain in the 2.5-7.5 mm range and “moderate rain” is the category for 7.6-35.5 mm rain. Clearly, most of Delhi got light to very light rain.
