Newly-recruited Lashkar militant arrested in Kashmir’s Sopore: J-K Police

The police said that a pistol with magazine, five pistol rounds and two UBGL grenades were recovered from this possession.

​Jammu and Kashmir police arrested a newly-recruited Lashkar-e-Taiba ​(LeT)​ militant in north Kashmir’s Sopore on Thursday, officials said.

The police said that a pistol with magazine, five pistol rounds and two UBGL grenades were recovered from this possession.

A police spokesperson said that a joint checkpoint was established by police, army’s 52-RR and 177 CRPF Bn on Seer Amargrah road near Railway Crossing Seer, Sopore.

“During Naka checking, one person after noticing the joint checkpoint fled away to a nearby orchard. The area was immediately cordoned off by the police and security forces, and the suspected person was apprehended,” the spokesperson said.

The official said that the person was later identified as Ishfaq Ahmad Kanna , a resident of Jamai-Qadeem Sopore of district Baramulla who was recently recruited by LeT.

“ Before joining LeT, he worked as an active recruiter or over the ground worker for LeT outfit in Sopore and other areas of north Kashmir,” the spokesperson said​.
