No threat to J'khand government, says JMM; BJP says truth will prevail

“Our confidence comes from the support of 3.5 crore people of this state who gave us the mandate for five years. Asserting that it enjoys the support of the people in general and confidence of the legislators in the House, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) said on Thursday that the state government led by Hemant Soren will complete its term of five years and continue to deliver on the mandate with which the three-party alliance was voted to power in 2019.

“Our confidence comes from the support of 3.5 crore people of this state who gave us the mandate for five years. There is no threat to our government despite the perennial conspiracy theories propagated by the BJP and misuse of the central agencies,” said JMM general secretary Supriyo Bhattacharya.

On whether the party leadership is pondering over an alternative face who could lead the government if Hemant Soren is disqualified, Supriyo said, “We are not even discussing alternatives because there is only one alternative to Hemant Soren and that is Hemant Soren. He will remain CM and our leader in future.”

The JMM leader also accused the BJP of conspiring to destabilise the government and also urged the Election Commission of India to act against BJP leaders pre-empting the ECI verdict on the mining lease row.

“I am surprised why the ECI did not condemn the action of some of the BJP leaders including a Member of Parliament (Nishikant Dubey), who tweeted about the possible ECI recommendation. The ECI should take cognisance and file a case against such leaders who are lowering the position of a constitutional body like the ECI,” he added.

The JMM leader underlined that the JMM was ready to take on the BJP on whichever political platform the saffron party chooses.

Jharkhand BJP president Deepak Prakash said the truth will ultimately prevail.

“I would not like to comment about the ECI recommendations as yet because only the governor knows about it. However, we are confident that the ECI would accept our argument because we have raised the correct legal provisions. We are confident that ultimately the truth will prevail,” said Prakash.

While speculation was rife about the future of the Hemant Soren government, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey was quoted saying by news agency PTI that he would like to see a mid-term poll in the state.

Earlier this month, three Congress legislators, Irfan Ansari, Rajesh Kachhap and Naman Bixel Kongari, were arrested by West Bengal police in Howrah with 49 lakh cash in their car. They were arrested after another Congress legislator Anup Singh filed a police complaint alleging the three legislators had approached him with an offer to topple the state government at the behest of the top BJP leadership. The three Congress legislators have also been suspended by the party.
