Sloganeering, 'brainstorming': Post-detention videos of Rahul Gandhi, others
The detained MPs include Leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge and suspended Lok Sabha MP Manickam Tagore, among others. They were on Tuesday snapped being taken away in buses to Vijay Chowk police station.
Amid massive protests by Congress leaders, which resulted in several of them, including party MP Rahul Gandhi being detained on Tuesday, videos were shared online that showed them at the Delh's Kingsway Police camp. "We have converted the police detention centre at Kingsway Camp Delhi into a brainstorming session of Congress Parliamentary Party on issues of price rise, Agnipath, GST on food items, national security, the falling rupee & other issues concerning the people of India," he tweeted, and shared a video. In another clip shared by news agency ANI, the Congress MPs were seen raising slogans in support of Rahul Gandhi.
The stir, triggered amid Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi's second round of questioning by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the National Herald Case, was a planned one. The MPs had taken out a protest march from Parliament to Vijay Chowk with the agenda to present a memorandum to the newly sworn-in President Droupadi Murmu.
The detained MPs included Leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge and suspended Lok Sabha MP Manickam Tagore, among others. They were earlier in the day snapped while being taken away in buses to Vijay Chowk police station.
Initially when Gandhi was detained, officials did not reveal where he was being taken to. Other Congress MPs were detained and taken away in separate police buses.
After the detention, the former Congress president claimed that India is a “police state, Modi (PM Narendra Modi) is a king”. He also alleged that discussions were not permitted in Parliament.
Before taking out the protest march, the MPs met in the Parliament complex to reportedly strategise as Sonia appeared before the federal agency for a probe in an alleged money laundering case pertaining to the National Herald newspaper.
They also protested in front of the Mahatma Gandhi's statue, with AICC general secretary Ajay Maken claiming the Congress MPs and leaders were denied permission to hold satyagraha outside Rajghat - the Gandhi memorial.
