The incident took place around 1:30 am on Monday. The CCTV footage shows two cops arriving on their motorcycle at the mandi, and discreetly picking up a sack full of melons.
When the guard deployed at the mandi notices them and tries to stop them, they thrash him with their sticks.
The two cops have been identified as special police officer (SPO) Sunehra Singh and home guard Pawan Kumar. The two were deployed on night duty in the area to check on the incidents of crime. However, they themselves committed one.
The injured guard, Prem Bahadur, lodged a complaint with the police, after which, Jind SP Shashank Anand initiated an inquiry. Finding the two cops guilty, the SP terminated the SPO and recommended termination of the home guard as well to his commander. The home guard division does not come under Haryana Police, so direct termination was not possible.
