The bailey bridge was being constructed over Gorkhale river to connect Borberkra village to Jattarpur. At around 8 am this morning the bridge collapsed injuring seven labourers, they said.

The injured labourers were rushed to Borbekra health centre from where they were referred to a hospital in Silchar in neighbouring Assam, the police said.

District officials said the 160-foot long bailey bridge was being constructed by a private contractor and the project was being funded by the Rural Development Ministry under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana.
