Visually-challenged girl’s throat slit in Odisha village
The girl, a calss 7 student of Berhampur Blind School in Ganjam district, was immediately taken to MKCG Medical College and Hospital, where she is battling for her life.
A visually-challenged 16-year-old girl in Odisha is battling for her life after some miscreants broke into her home last night and slit her throat.
The girl, a calss 7 student of Berhampur Blind School in Ganjam district, was sleeping in her home in Kumudi village when some miscreants attacked her. They fled as soon as the mother woke up.
The girl was immediately taken to MKCG Medical College and Hospital, where she is undergoing treatment.
Though it was initially suspected that the girl was raped, a preliminary probe ruled it out.
The victim’s mother said someone broke through the back door of her home.
“When I did not find her in the room, I searched for her. She was found in a puddle of blood in the next room,” she told the police.
The girl’s father works in Mumbai while her mother lives in the village with three children, two of whom are visually challenged.
Ganjam SP Ashis Singh said the girl is not in a position to speak as her vocal cord has been injured in the assault. “The girl is presently undergoing an operation. Our team is inquiring into the case,” he said.
