Weather, rain LIVE updates: The District Disaster Management Officer (DDMO) Nandan Singh Rajwar on Thursday informed that the water level in the region is being closely monitored amid rising inflows following rainfall in the upper Himalayan areas.

Rajwar said the current water level has reached 622 metres above sea level, while the warning level stands at 626 metres and the danger level at 627 metres.

He added that once the water level reached the warning mark, alerts will be issued through WhatsApp groups, public announcements will be made using vehicles, and ground teams will be deployed to warn residents.

"The water level in the region has reached 622 meters due to rainfall in the upper Himalayan areas. The warning level is 626 meters above sea level, and the dangerous level is 627 meters. When the water level approaches the warning level, alerts are sent out via WhatsApp groups, announcements are made using vehicles, and personnel go to the ground to warn people," he said.

Mumbai rain LIVE: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Thursday warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall across Mumbai and its suburbs, with the possibility of extremely heavy rainfall during the night and into Friday morning.

According to the civic body, occasional gusty winds with speeds of 50-60 kmph are also likely over the city.

The BMC said a high tide is expected at 1:45 pm on Thursday and again at 1:31 am on July 3, while low tide is expected at 7:49 pm on Thursday and 7:11 am on Friday.

The BMC further said that during the 24-hour period between 8 am on July 1 and 8 am on July 2, the city recorded an average rainfall of 172 mm, while the eastern suburbs received 189 mm and the western suburbs recorded 165 mm.

Several parts of Mumbai witnessed severe waterlogging on Thursday following heavy rainfall that lashed the city since early morning, disrupting traffic and affecting normal life.

Visuals from the Andheri, Navi Mumbai, Kurla East, SG Barve Road, Sindhi Society, Chembur, Kings Circle and Gandhi Market areas showed waterlogged roads, affecting vehicular movement.

As heavy rainfall continues in the city, Dadar Station in Mumbai also witnessed waterlogged railway tracks.

Meanwhile, residents in waterlogged areas expressed concern over the recurring flooding during the monsoon.

"I have been observing this for a long time; even a little rain leads to severe waterlogging. The government should implement waterlogging mitigation measures here," a local resident told ANI.

Train services on Mumbai's Central Railway network were also running behind schedule on Thursday morning due to reduced visibility caused by heavy rainfall, railway officials said.

According to the Central Railway Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO), trains are running late because of reduced visibility in many parts across the network.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a nowcast red alert for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and Raigad districts, forecasting moderate to intense spells of rain at isolated places over the next three hours till 10:45 am.

The weather department advised people to avoid weak structures and low-lying and waterlogging-prone areas; stay away from trees and electric poles; and remain updated with the latest weather information. (ANI)

Weather, rain LIVE updates: Heavy monsoon rain claimed seven lives in Himachal Pradesh and Karnataka on Wednesday, while lightning killed two people in Uttar Pradesh, even as landslides, flooding and waterlogging disrupted normal life across several states.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) warned of heavy rain over south Bengal in the coming days.

Himachal Pradesh reported four rain-related deaths as torrential showers lashed several parts of the state, including Shimla, Manali and Dharamshala, triggering landslides, swelling rivers and disrupting power supply. A woman from Solan district was killed after being hit by a falling boulder near Aut on the Chandigarh-Manali National Highway.

According to the state emergency operations centre (SEOC), three more deaths were reported from Kangra district, including one each due to electrocution and a fall from height.

The southwest monsoon, which arrived in Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday, covered the entire state by Wednesday.

Delhi rain LIVE updates: Several parts of the national capital received light to moderate rainfall on Thursday morning, bringing relief from the humid conditions and lowering the temperature across the city.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said Delhi is likely to witness a generally cloudy sky with moderate rain during the day. It also forecast thunderstorms accompanied by rain on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The minimum temperature was recorded at 22.8 degrees Celsius, 5.1 notches below the season's average, according to the IMD. The maximum temperature is expected to settle around 33 degrees Celsius.

Intermittent showers accompanied by light winds were reported from several areas of the city during the morning, providing respite to residents after days of warm and humid weather.

Weather, rain LIVE updates: Parts of the national capital received rainfall on Thursday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a red alert.

The monsoon is expected to enter Delhi around July 3 or 4, as per the weather department. Meanwhile, rainfall alert has been issued for Delhi till July 7.

The maximum temperature in Delhi on July will settle at 33 degrees Celsius while minimum will hover around 24 degrees Celsius, as per IMD's weekly forecast.

Palawat said rain activity is expected to intensify over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and north Rajasthan by July 2 or 3, and the monsoon is expected to reach Delhi around July 3 or 4.

"The monsoon generally advances along the seasonal trough, which currently stretches from Punjab to the Bay of Bengal. The easterly winds from the Bay of Bengal are expected to reach Delhi around July 3 or 4 along with the trough. Until then, the city is likely to receive only isolated spells of rain. Once these easterly winds set in and the trough becomes more favourable, monsoon activity will pick up significantly," he told news agency PTI.

Shivender Singh, a scientist with IMD, told HT that a fresh western disturbance is likely to affect northwest India from July 2, which is expected to enhance rainfall activity across the region.

Last year, the southwest monsoon reached Delhi on June 29, the same day it completed its advance over the entire country.
