Vice president M Venkaiah Naidu on Thursday said that yoga adopts a holistic approach towards health and well-being and it has “nothing to do with religion”.

“Yoga adopts a holistic approach towards health and well-being,” said Naidu participating Participating in an International Yoga Day event at the Bandra Reclamation Sealink Promenade.

“Yoga has nothing to do with religion and it is a holistic science embodying the basic principle of organic, interconnectedness of different facets of life,” he said.

“It is unfortunate that some people attribute religious overtones to this ancient scientific system.”

He stressed the need to include yoga in school curriculums to “create a healthy nation”.

“The practice of yoga is important for positive thoughts. If it is included in the school curriculum it is possible to create a healthy nation. Yoga also helps in relief from stress due to the changing lifestyles,” Naidu said.

Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, who also performed asanas at the event, said yoga, an ancient science, was important in the modern day world.
