India started the 3rd day of the final Test at Pallekle needing only 9 wickets to complete a series whitewash. Mohammed Shami and Ravichandran Ashwin struck in the first session, but Angelo Mathews and Dinesh Chandimal scripted a 50-run partnership to give Sri Lanka some hope. However, Kuldeep Yadav snared the wicket of Chandimal and it was all downhill from there. India’s bowling did the job efficiently after that, clinching their first ever away series clean sweep by winning the final Test by an innings and 171 runs.
