The accident took place on Salumbar-Banswara road in the district, some 300 km from Jaipur.

According to police, the two buses were approaching from opposite directions when they hit each other around 2pm.

"It seems one of the buses lost balance and rammed into the other. There were about 50 passengers onboard the two buses. Eight of them died on the spot, while two others died at a hospital in Udaipur," said the officer.

Several passengers were stuck in the buses.

"The injured were rushed to hospital with help of local residents. They are undergoing treatment. Condition of at least 10 of them is still serious," said the officer.
