Patil, speaking to reporters, said it has been decided to allot Rs 40 crore to Krishna Jala Bhagya Nigama for the scheme, the first phase of which was expected to be completed before the beginning of the next "water year".
Patil said apart from the Water Resources Department, Karnataka Niravari Nigama, Krishna Jala Bhagya Nigama and Cauvery Nigama, non-governmental organisations, industries and farmers would also be involved in the scheme.
Chief Minister S M Krishna had announced the scheme in the budget, to improve the water table, provide safe drinking water and encourage agriculture.
