As many as 13 senior officers, including five Generals, are facing action on charges of corruption, according to official figures placed in Parliament.
They show action was at various stages against 13 senior officers of which eight are from the army and five from the Navy.
The list includes an officer of the rank of Lt Gen, SK Sahni, four officers of Major General rank KTG Nambiar, LK Chopra, Gur Iqbal Singh Multani and PSK Choudhary.
Charges against these officers range from huge shortfall in meat contracts in collusion with contractors, corruption in procurement of digital camera and IT equipment for the army, selling army canteen bonded liquor in open market to accepting money on camera in Tehelka sting operation.
Along with the Generals, four officers of the rank of Brigadiers, Iqbal Singh, VK Anand, SS Rao and Brig RP Singh have also been hauled up before the army court martial.
Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Thursday warned of "stern action" against erring service personnel. "Wherever considered appropriate, cases are also being referred to CBI", he told Parliament.
