Mahato was produced before Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Sheikh Md. Rezza, who sent him to 14-day judicial custody, District Superintendent of Police Manoj Verma said.
He was charged with possession of illegal arms, Verma said.
Mahato was arrested along with a Maoist Nabakumar Mahato in an operation yesterday from Katapahari in the district. A 9 mm pistol and six rounds were seized from his possession.
