2 people killed, 20 students injured in school bus collision

Two men were killed and over 20 students of the Delhi Public School, Indirapuram, including nine Germans, suffered minor injuries in a head-on collision between a jeep and a bus on a national highway in Uttar Pradesh.

The students and their teachers were returning from an educational tour to Jim Corbett National Park when their bus collilded with a Scorpio jeep on the National Highway-24 in Gajraula in JP Nagar district. The driver of the school bus fled the spot.

The injured were admitted to Shanti Gopal Hospital at Indirapuram in the evening, where doctors said over a dozen students were discharged after first-aid.

School principal Meeta Rai said the students had suffered "minor injuries and the situation was under control".

The deceased were identified as Harvinder and Jagpreet, both in their 40s, of Punjab.

"They died immediately. The students were rushed back to Ghaziabad for further medical treatment," said a police officer from the Gajraula police station.
