Mumbra resident Hameed Qureshi alias Ammu and Rabodi resident Salman alias Salman Charsi Khan were arrested from Rabodi, police said.

Qureshi, Khan along with their aides Shahbaaz Sheikh and an unidentified accomplice, both of whom are absconding, tried to rob Castle Mill resident Kutubuddin Sheikh on November 21 near Rehmania Hotel.

"Qureshi and Sheikh are the masterminds of the gang. They are known as Ammu-Nammu. They had been robbing people in a similar manner but were never caught as they would run off to Mumbra after committing the crime. But in their bid to rob him, they also slashed the complainant's cheek with a sharp object," said assistant police inspector Satish Ghotekar.

On interrogation, the police found out that they were also involved in other crimes in the area.

"They were involved in a 2009 murder case, after which Qureshi and Sheikh shifted to Mumbra. They are involved in house several cases of break-in, theft and dacoity. They are uneducated and unemployed. They got into crime to fund their drug habit," added the investigating officer.
