At least 20 people are feared dead in a flash flood resulting from heavy downpour over the last two days in North Sikkim. The rescue team has managed to recover only four bodies so far.

"Rescue operations weres hit hard because there have been several landslides on the roads bound for North Sikkim. We can only confirm the death toll once we recover all the bodies," said Tashi Wangdi the District Collector of North Sikkim.
The four bodies have been recovered from Chung Thang, around 3 km from the district headquarters of Mangan. They belong to a single family – husband, wife and two children.
The General Reserve Engineering Force (GREF) camp, located on the Rangma range around 14 km from Chung Thang towards Lachen, is the worst affected. At last 15 personnel of the camp are feared dead. A watchman of the GREF camp at Kala Patthar is also missing. The GREF is the custodian of all roadways from Mangan to Chinese borders in North Sikkim.
The flood has also washed out the Indo-Tibet Border Police camp located on Pedong.
