20 held for Ghazipur poll violence
NO UNTOWARD incident was reported from Reotipur in Ghazipur district on Thursday where four persons were killed following a clash between the activists of SP and BJP on Wednesday after a dispute over polling for the Block Pramukh election.

Police have taken about 20 persons into custody in this connection. The mortal remains of all the four persons who were killed in yesterday’s violence were consigned to flames at separate places in the district on Thursday. Heavy police force has been deployed in and around Reotipur village to avoid further violence.
District Magistrate Anita Meshram and Superintendent of Police S Ravindram visited the village in the morning and reviewed the situation.
Meanwhile, after consultations with the election observer, the district magistrate postponed the election in Reotipur polling centre. Fresh election will be held on March 5. Minister Om Prakash Singh visited Utrauli village today and consoled the bereaved family members of deceased- Sadanand Singh and Ramashish Singh.
It may be noted that a Bharatiya Janata Party worker Bulbul Rai had been shot dead by the activists of SP outside the polling centre.
The death of Bulbul Rai had infuriated the BJP workers, who surrounded the house of a local SP leader, Uma Shanker Rai where some SP activists were hiding. The irate crowd set the house ablaze. When the SP activists came out and attempted to escape, the irate mob attacked them with lathis and firearms, causing death of three persons and severe injury to two others.
A magisterial inquiry had been set up by the DM to probe the incident.
Two run over: Two persons were run over by a tractor at Chandmari area under Shivpur police station on Thursday morning. Local residents set the tractor ablaze and staged a chakka jam on Chandmari route. The deceased were identified as 40-year-old Nemchand Patel, resident of Murdaha area and 35-year-old Pancham Chauhan, resident of Shivranpur under Cholapur police station.
