Mahesh Khadi, Rakesh aka Patra and Suresh Dalal were killed in a police encounter in Subhashnagar area in the wee hours today, Superintendent of Police Prabal Pratap Singh told PTI.
Acting on a tip-off, Special Operations Group (SOG) led by Inspector Vivek Sharma raided their hideout in Ganeshpur locality last night and asked the trio to surrender, Singh said.
Instead of surrendering, they opened fire on the police party in which five cops were injured, the SP said, adding, one policeman Brijesh sustained bullet injuries.
In retaliatory firing, the trio was killed, he said.
According to police, while Mahesh, who carried a cash reward of Rs 5,000 on his head, had around 16 cases of loot and murder registered against him, Rakesh, with 32 cases against him, carried a cash reward of Rs 2,500.
Suresh had 22 cases on his name.
The SOG has been tracking their movement for last few days, he added.
