Two children aged eight years, who were playing close to a rivulet in Deepaknagar, were washed away by strong currents after the level of water rose suddenly, officials told.

The bodies of both children were found later, they said.

In a separate incident at Durg district headquarters, an 18-month-old infant was washed away in a similar way, officials said. The body is yet to be recovered.

Durg district has been experiencing heavy rains since Saturday.
