A team of 74 relief workers had gone to Kedarnath on July 3 to cremate those who died during the Uttarakhand disaster recently, but got stuck there. Following their rescue, other relief workers in the group were provided with 15 days of supplies.
Meanwhile, ration supplies to remote villages remains a difficult task. Several villages in Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Uttarkashi, Pithoragarh and Bageswar are still cut off from the roads.
According to officials, rations could not be supplied since Saturday due to bad weather, although food was available in the godowns. Rescue choppers were making sorties to drop ration packets in these villages as the weather improved on Tuesday.
The government is now focusing on Kumaon region, which has in the past seen landslides and damaged roads.
Meanwhile, a cloudburst occurred at Urgam Valley in the Garhwal hills on Sunday destroying eight homes. Three persons died in Dehradun and four in Lansdown on the same day. The upper reaches of the state saw drizzles and cloudiness on Tuesday.
