A seven-member team had entered Basanti Mata mine around 11.00am on Monday. Four miners were trapped after the roof of the mine collapsed. Three from the team had managed to escape.

BCCL had confirmed one death on Monday after recovering a body from the rubble in the afternoon. The deceased was identified as Harilal Manjhi.

Bodies of the three missing miners — Sitaram Manhji, Littu Shaw and assistant colliery manager Arup Chatterjee — were recovered after BCCL launched an extensive search operation.

Senior BCCL officials are camping at the site. Dhanbad parliamentarian and Bharatiya Janata Party leader PN Singh has demanded a judicial inquiry into the incident.
