The indefinite strike of students and junior doctors of MLN Medical College has finally started to take its toll on the region's largest referral Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital (SRNH). With less than hundred patients remaining in the 800-bed hospital the ward number 5, 8, 11 and 12 have been closed by the hospital administration.

About 40 patients of orthopaedic department have been shifted to two wards.

The indoor admissions have also been stopped and only very serious patients were being admitted to the emergency ward.

All the major surgeries have also been completely stopped on Saturday in support of the ongoing anti-quota agitation. The OPD remained closed on the thirteenth consecutive day due to which most of the patients coming from different parts of region had to face a lot of inconvenience.

The panicky parents were seen moving from one ward to another in a hope to get some treatment for their young ones. Many also waited for hours in the corridors of emergency ward to get some medicines from the hospital. Some children were seen crying out in pain with their desperate mothers consoling them to take them back to their home.

An eerie silence enveloped most of the wards as the medicos' agitation entered the second week. The junior doctors also launched a massive publicity campaign to request general public, head of departments, professors and teachers to join their anti-quota 'Maharally' on Sunday.

The indefinite relay hunger strike of students and junior doctors also entered the fifth day on Saturday. The students showed no signs of withdrawing their strike under government's pressure. Snubbing the PM's appeal they threatened to further intensity their agitation.

Meanwhile, JDA president Dr Neeraj said they have received an immense support from teachers and professors in their agitation against the OBC quota policy.

Many of them have also committed to remain present at the Maharally. "Even today also as many as ten students and junior doctors sat on hunger strike to continue the agitation. These included Dr CS Joshi, Dr Reeta Singh, Dr N Mishra, Bhavna Chaturvedi, Deepika, Shweta Singh, Priyanka Khare, Anchala, Amitesh, Deepak Pandey and Vineet Sehgal," he informed.
