40 army men honoured with gallantry awards

THE ARMY Day investiture ceremony of Southern Command was organised today at the 3 EME center. General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Command. Lieutenant General Balraj Singh Thakkar was the chief guest of the investiture ceremony.

THE ARMY Day investiture ceremony of Southern Command was organised today at the 3 EME center. General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Command. Lieutenant General Balraj Singh Thakkar was the chief guest of the investiture ceremony.

He felicitated some of the valiant and distinguished army personnel for their outstanding achievements. In all, 40 army personnel including seven posthumously were honoured for their distinguished service.

The Army Day is celebrated on January 15 every year to mark taking over of the reins of the Indian Army by the first Indian Commander-in-Chief General (Field Marshal) KM Cariappa.

In the ceremony, Col Rakesh Kumar Singh was awarded with ‘Yudh Seva Medal’. Yudh Seva Medal is awarded for the distinguished service of high order during war, conflict and hostilities. Bar to Vishist Seva Medal awarded to Brig Parvinder Singh. This medal is awarded to the recipient who was awarded the Sena Medal/Vishist Seva medal for a second time.

In all, 25 army personnel including seven posthumously were awarded with Sena Medal. Vishist Seva Medals were awarded to 11 army personnel. Bar to Sena Medal awarded to Lt Col Anil Gorshi and HAV Kishore Kumar.

Addressing the gathering, Thakkar highlighted importance of the Army Day. The occasion witnessed presence of a large number of officers and soldiers.
