The accident occurred at about 6.30pm.

Kangra superintendent of police Diljeet Thakur said that rescue teams, including army personnel from Palampur and fire brigade staff, had reached the spot.

Thakur said the wreckage was still to be located as the accident site was isolated and in a forest. “Rescuers are finding it difficult to reach the spot due to rain. The communication network in the area has not been working properly either,” the SP said.

A body was recovered and a survivor found till reports last came in on Monday night. “We can’t confirm the casualty as nobody has been able to climb down the gorge in the dark. More than 40
people were on board the bus,” Thakur added.

The cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained.
