A 400-strong mob lynched a 30-year-old man here after he allegedly raped and killed a three-year-old girl, police said today.
A 400-strong mob lynched a 30-year-old man here after he allegedly raped and killed a three-year-old girl, police said today.
"The deceased Deepak Gajanan Tangadpalliwar yesterday took the girl to his house adjoining his, thereafter raped and killed her," Chandrapur district SP Manoj Kumar Sharma told PTI.
Enraged at the heinous act a mob of around 400 lynched Tangadpalliwar last night at Savli, 70 km from district headquarters, Sharma said.
"Deepak was an alcoholic, psychic, used to be depressed and was known to have problems with people," the IPS officer said, adding "He was unmarried and his mother had also left him."
The girl's parents and Deepak were neighbours. After she went missing, a search was launched and when people learnt that Deepak had raped and killed her, they assaulted him and set him afire, Sharma said. Cases have been registered under 302 IPC against unknown assailants, the police officer said.
