5 Maoists killed in Chhattisgarh encounter

Five Maoist rebels were shot dead by security forces in an overnight gunbattle in Chhattisgarh, police said on Tuesday.

The encounter took place when rebels opened fire on a 55-member paramilitary patrol party in the forested Dantewada district, 500 km of Raipur.

Bodies of the rebels have been recovered along with eight landmines and two homemade bombs. Police said several rebels sustained multiple bullet wounds but their comrades carried them away into the forests.
