According to officers from the MRA Marg police station, Madar is the owner of Unique Shipping Management Services located in Bharati Bhawan near the GPO on P D’Mello Road.
“Madar came to the office around 11.30 am from his home in Dongri in a Scorpio car, driven by his driver Rizwan. Within some time, he left the office for some work in the Scoprio,” said one of Madar’s staffers.
Rizwan, in his statement to the police, said that Madar had lunch at a nearby hotel after leaving office and the attack happened when they returned back. As Madar was getting out of his car near hotel Manama, which is located next to Bharati Bhawan, the shooters fired at him from a black Pulsar bike.
Additional Commissioner of Police (south region) RK Padmanabhan said, “The pillion rider fired two rounds on Madar. One bullet hit him on right side on the head and the other hit him on the right shoulder.”
The duo immediately fled on their bike after firing the shots.
According to Deven Bharti, Additional Commissioner of Mumbai police’s crime branch, Madar has criminal cases against him.
He had links with the oil mafia and was involved in smuggling of petrol, diesel and other crude products, police said.
