Police sources said Soni, whose family owns a garments and electronic parts business in Jamshedpur, was not in touch with any of the other accused and has not been seen since Monday evening. The student, who was studying at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences and was gang-raped on Sunday, registered a police complaint on Tuesday.

“It’s been five days since the complaint was lodged. The chances of Soni fleeing the country cannot be ruled out,” said inspector N.R. Ambupe, who is among those investigating the case.

The victim in her complaint said she and the six accused had gone out drinking on Saturday. Later, the six youths took her to a flat in Versova and gang-raped her.
