7 feared drowned in Jamshedpur

The incident took place in Swarnarekha river during Sunday's Chhath celebrations in the steel city.

Seven teenagers were feared drowned during Chhath festival in Swarnarekha river in Bhuiyadih area of the steel city on Sunday, according to Jharkhand Land Reforms, Revenue and Cooperative minister, Dulal Bhuiyan.

The police confirmed the incident but did not specify the number of youths involved in the accident.

The minister, who is a resident of the locality, said that the teenagers had gone near the river to celebrate the festival with their family members. They stayed back after the festivities to take a bath in the river.

One of the boys, identified as Manoj, managed to swim ashore, he said.

Divers and boats have been pressed into service, he said.

Senior district officials have reached the spot and are supervising search operation.
