8 killed, 1 injured in car-truck collision in Rajkot

Eight people, including four women, were killed and one other sustained injuries when their car collided with a speeding truck in Rajkot.

Eight people, including four women, were killed and one other sustained injuries when their car collided with a speeding truck on Surendranagar-Viramgam highway in Rajkot on Wednesday.

Police said that the car was carrying nine members of two families when it collided with the truck at around 6am.

“The victims were residents of Rajkot and were going to Ghoghaji Maharaj temple for darshan,” Viramgam police sub-inspector JD Zala said.

The deceased were identified as Ashok Lalji, Kalu Gamara, Shailesh Gamara, Labuben Gamara, Pushpa Jetiya, Girish Jetiya, Kanekshwari Jetiya and Vibhaben Jetiya. One injured person was rushed to a hospital in Ahmedabad. “A complaint has been lodged against the truck driver and further investigation is on,” the SI added.
