With rejection of 34 nomination papers during scrutiny, 840 candidates now remain in the fray for the sixth phase of polling on May 3.

Nominations for the seventh and last phase of polling began on Saturday with the issuance of the notification. As many as 21 candidates filed their papers, according to election office sources in Lucknow.
Meanwhile, Gopal Tandon, son of senior BJP leader Lalji Tandon whose name figured in the FIR lodged in connection with the controversial CD case, on Saturday withdrew his nomination from the Lucknow West assembly seat where his father is a BJP candidate.
Lalji Tandon had got the nomination filed by his son apprehending that he might be debarred from contesting the elections.
