9 high school students arrested for rape

Police today arrested nine students of a high school in Sundergarh district in Odisha who allegedly gang raped a girl of their class.

The students and victim, are all students of class 10 in the high school in Bisra under Rourkela police district limit, about 400 km northwest of Bhubaneswar.

Police said the girl was returning home from school in the evening on Friday along with two other girls when the accused persons waylaid her. While the other two girls escaped, they forcibly took her to the nearby forest and raped her.

The girl recounted the events to her family members, who then lodged a complaint in the police station on Saturday.

As all the accused persons are minors, they were sent to a juvenile home after being produced in court, police said.
