Nine blasts had rocked Jama Masjid, Musafirkhana, between Kanjurmarg and Vikhroli stations, between Goregaon and Malad railway station, in slum at Golibar Nagar in Santacruz, two platforms on Kandivli station and near a school in Virar between August 1997 and February 1998.

Special prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam said that Sheikh’s conviction, significantly, comes after his wife Asma testified against her husband. “His wife told the court that on the day of incident Sheikh came to house, took a bag and went out and after some time there was some explosion. Later, Asma took him to hospital and when asked him as to what happened, he said that he was carrying a bomb and it exploded accidentally”.
