Yadav and Madhya Pradesh Assembly Speaker Ishwardas Rohani broke down in the House at the reported anti-woman comment made on Wednesday by Congress members. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and others tried to console the Speaker.

The assembly censured the Congress MLAs accused of making the comment and adjourned the House proceedings on Thursday morning.

Yadav, in her breach of privilege notice, said some Congress MLAs who had been on an agitation path for three days allegedly said that she was late in coming to the assembly on Wednesday because she had gone to a “beauty parlour”. Congress MLAs were charged with trying to block her entry.

Talking to media persons in his chamber, the Speaker broke down again. He said in his long career, he had never heard of such behaviour from a member of the assembly. His belief that the assembly in MP was the most dignified in the country had received a jolt, he added.

The Congress has denied that such a remark was made.
