Talk is that Mehra has the legendary actor-producer-director in mind for a biopic. It is learnt that the untitled movie has been scripted by Nasreen Munni Kabir, who has also written the book Guru Dutt: A Life in Cinema.

Year-end plans
It is believed that Mehra would like to start the movie by the end of the year, but things can be confirmed only after his talks with Aamir Khan with whom he did Rang de Basanti. The actor is currently working in Rajkumar Hirani’s 3 Idiots and his wife Kiran Rao’s Dhobi Ghat.

Khan is also overseeing his home productions Delhi Belly directed by Abhinay Deo and a film on farmers suicides to be helmed by Anusha Rizvi.

Incidentally, Guru Dutt’s Kaagaz ke Phool was itself semi-autobiographical, dealing with his relationship with his wife as well as the woman he loved.

It showed him as a failed filmmaker. The black-and-white film flopped when it was first released in 1959 but went on to achieve the status of a classic.
