TAKING ANOTHER step to check pilferage of power, the supply to streetlights will soon be provided through Ariel Bunch Conductors (ABCs). This will ensure that no naked wire is left on the pole, to encourage katia connections.

ABCs is an insulated bunch of three wires on which no ‘katia’ can be applied.
According to KESCo officials, if an attempt if a wire hook is thrown onto the ABC, a severe electric shock is transmitted.
Under the ongoing Accelerated Power Development and Reforms Program (APDRP) ordinary conductors are being replaced by ABCs to check pilferage of power. In the first phase, ABC has already been laid out in a stretch of 15 km and another 15 km is still to be laid out. An amount of Rs 4 crore under the APDRP has been specially earmarked for laying ABC in specific areas of the city.
Meanwhile, supply to general consumers will also be made through a special procedure. A piercing conductor, about the size of a matchbox, will be installed on one phase of a junction box. From the other end of the conductor, power will be supplied to consumers.
One of the three wires of the ABC has been reserved for supplying power to streetlights.
KESCo general manager MP Tripathi said, “More than half the work of laying ABC has been completed. The remaining work will also be completed in due course.”
In the first phase, this cable was being laid in specific areas of the city, which report maximum pilferage of power. In the second phase, ABC would be laid in other parts of the city, added Tripathi.
Being an integral part of APDRP, KESCo officials are leaving nothing to chance.
