WIDELY CRITICISED for water-logging after heavy downpour on Saturday, district and municipal corporation officials have decided to jointly launch a pilot project to demolish encroachments and clean drains from Wednesday. The district administration is also in the mood to deal with traffic problems with an iron hand.

Talking to mediapersons, district magistrate Dr Hariom said he would convince the people to support the project to resolving traffic and water-logging problems in the city. He stressed the need for sustainable efforts to resolve these two problems and said the traffic system could be streamlined with the cooperation of common people.

Dr Hariom said on the first day, anti-encroachment drive would be started from Kachehri bus station to Premchand park. Encroachment on both sides of the road would be removed and width of the road in the areas as mentioned on papers would be ensured on ground. He said that all encroachments would be demolished during the drive. In the second phase, encroachments would be removed from Reti crossing to Buxipur and Reti crossing to Gita Press road.

Responding to a question, Dr Hariom admitted the Gorakhpur Development Authority had approved the maps of commercial buildings in residential areas but in last the meeting of GDA board, ban had been imposed on approval of commercial maps in residential areas.

Dr Hariom said police station in-charge of respective areas would be held accountable for encroachments in their areas and stringent action would be taken against them.

He said he had written a letter to SSP Raja Srivastav in this regard and appealed to the peoples to support the pilot project. He directed the traders of Golghar and Cinema road to park their vehicles in the basement at Baldeva complex and said parking rules would be strictly implemented.
