Advani, Bhutia among Teacher's Achievement Awards nominees

Samresh Jung, Anuja Jung, Abhinav Bindra, Aparna Popat, Ritwik Bhattacharya and Shiv Kapoor are the other nominees for award.

Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna awardee snooker player Pankaj Advani, soccer star Baichung Bhutia, ace shooters Samaresh Jung, Anuja Jung and Abhinav Bindra are among the short-listed nominees for Teacher's Achievement Awards 2006.

In sports category, other nominees for this award are eight-time national badminton champion Aparna Popat, top squash player Ritwik Bhattacharya and young golfer Shiv Kapur, according to a press release on November 15, 2006.

A jury comprising former Indian cricket captain K Srikkanth, football stalwart P K Banerjee, eminent hockey player of yesteryears Zafar Iqbal, former world billiards champion Michael Ferriera, former ICC umpire and ex-cricketer S Venkataraghavan, chose the nominees.

The awards are bestowed on persons renowned for their achievements in the fields of business, entertainment, sports and communication.

In sports, tennis ace Mahesh Bhupathi, Indian cricket captain Rahul Dravid, Olympic medal winning shooter Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, Formula 1 driver Narain Karthikeyan and top woman shooter Anjali Bhagwat have got the award.

The awards function will be held in Delhi on November 25.
