They raised slogans against the alleged landlord-mafia rule and police repression, and handed over a memorandum of demands to the sub-divisional magistrate. The SDM addressed the gathering and assured the people that he would solve their problems.
In a Press release, AIKMS secretary VP Patel said the main demands included installation of a mining machine and loaders in Simri and Tilhapur villages, failure to ensure smooth functioning of pumps and canals, obstruction in free flow of water as per schedule by local criminal elements in Beekar, Saripur and Kanjasa, rampant irregularity on the issue of BPL ration cards in villages, particularly in Beekar, Kanti, Basehra, Uprahar and Pure Baghel, failure of the block officials to pay workers for digging of ponds done last year in Surwal and Khujwaha villages among other demands.
He stated that the workers also demanded waving of loans of the poor, implementation of minimum wages of Rs 65 per day and cancellation of the Ken-Betwa project.
AIKMS district president Dashrath, general secretary Suresh, VP Patel, Gurudin, Ram Kailash Kushwaha, Baboo Nishad, Suresh Nishad, Ramraj Nishad, Ram Asrey, Basantlal, Santosh Nishad, Dhanpati Devi, Ramphal Kushwaha and Heeralal also addressed the gathering.
