Ajay Maken
It was under Maken's efficient supervision & guidance that the Delhi Metro work was speeded-up.
Born on 12thJanuary, 1964 in Delhi in a well-known family of freedom fighters, Ajay Maken did his schooling from St. Xaviers, Delhi and throughout his school days participated in numerous plays, debates and drama. He was the editor of his school Magazine and was awarded Xaviers Award for his all round performance in academic and co-curricular activities. Thereafter he studied in Hansraj College, Delhi University and became the DUSU President in 1985-86, which was his first step into politics.

Ajay Maken was elected as the Member of Legislative Assembly in 1993 by the maximum percentage of votes from Rajouri Garden Assembly constituency. He was re-elected to second Legislative Assembly in general elections held in November 1998 when the Congress Party came into power. Ajay Maken in 1999 was made the Parliamentary Secretary to the Chief Minister with a job of assisting her in legislative matters.
Not only in Delhi, but even in the other parts of the country, Ajay Maken's ability and his knowledge on working of democratic institution as a legislator has been highly acclaimed. In recognition of Maken's contribution to Assembly debates and proceedings he was given the Best MLA award for the year 1998-99 for his excellent performance in Delhi Assembly.
He was sworn in as the Minister of Transport, Tourism & Power, Government of NCT of Delhi on 6th December 2001. He brought improvement in the transport department of Delhi and made efforts to provide world's only public transport to run on CNG fuel including auto-rickshaws to make Delhi pollution free. .
It was under Maken's efficient supervision & guidance that the Delhi Metro work was speeded-up & was finally dedicated to the people of Delhi on 25th December, 2002.
After the elections for the third Assembly Ajay Maken not only won with a massive margin but also became one of the youngest ever Speaker in the country, thus adding another feather to his cap.
