An evening addressed to the muse

?Hawa se par kataana ab zaroori ho gaya hai, mera parwaz bharna ab zaroori ho gaya hai, main aksar zindagi ke un marahil se bhi guzra, jahan lagta tha marna ab zaroori ho gaya hai?. ‘Hawa se par kataana ab zaroori ho gaya hai,
mera parwaz bharna ab zaroori ho gaya hai,
main aksar zindagi ke un marahil se bhi guzra,
jahan lagta tha marna ab zaroori ho gaya hai’.

Thus began Khushbir Singh ‘ Shaad’ and followed it up with ‘ another beautiful and thought-provoking Rubai (a four-liner) as the ‘Shaukeen-e-Shairi’ (poetry buffs) settle down to enjoy an evening addressed to the muse.

They were gathered there as part of the commemoration function for the Golden Jubilee of the UP Press club on its premises.

Meanwhile, the ‘ Dastarkhwan’ was spread and the rich aroma wafted out to the audience, distracting most. Hot ‘n’ spicy ‘n’ sumptuous fare was dished out to beat the remaining chill as Sanjay Mishra ‘Shaukh’ added a spiritual tinge to proceedings with, ‘Ye kaise sant ka math hai, yeh kis sufi ka hai dera, yahan to roz ek phera nai jogan lagati hai’, and later turned philosophical with, ‘Kisi ek chattan pe thehra hua hoon main, pairon ko ab fisalne ki aadat nahi rahi’.

Dr Nirmal Darshan had people applauding lustily as he recited, ‘Dushman hi sahi, magar usse ek rishta hai, yeh bhi kam to nahin’.

Tasneem Farooqui commented on love’s labour lost with,” Aap aur hum dono jeete reh gaye, faasle tay kar gayein rusvaiyan while Charan singh ‘ Bashar’ commented on journey from loneliness to hope, darkness to light,” Tanhaiyan sare ilaake mein nazar aati hain, Roshniyan beimaan nazar aati hain”.

Sarvesh Asthana ignited patriotic passions with,” Tutne wala nahi hai woh kisi farman se, jod rakha hai woh rishta humne Hindustan se”.

Meraz Faizabadi paid tribute to old age and the past with,” Mujhe maazi mein saza di kisne, khooni dehleez par yeh shama jala di kisne, mainto karta hi gaya apne buzurgon ko salaam, sochta hoon mujhko jeene ki dua di kisne”.
