Anara, Miss Jammu 2001, and her family had charged the police with illegally confinement and violating their fundamental rights. They also accused the police of harassing and torturing them from October 24 to November 4.

The petition has also sought transfer of the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation for a fair and impartial probe.

It may be recalled that on a Public Interest Litigation was filed in the High Court, on which the latter gave the police December 17 deadline to report on the case progress and also to explain as to how some media organisations were allowed to interview Anara while she was in the police custody.

In her petition, Anara Gupta has denied that she was at all starring in the pornographic CD, which was shown to her by the police.

She alleged that the police beat her up after she and family were compelled to come to the police station on October 23.

The petitioner alleged that she was forced to admit that she figured in the said CD, which was against the facts.

She added that On November 6, 7 and 8, the media was called to the police station and the petitioner was asked by the SHO of the Women Cell to confess to the crime.

Anara’s petition in the High Court comes at a time when the court has asked the DGP to file an independent report to explain as to how TV channels were given access to Anara while she was in the police custody.

The PIL has sought transfer of the case to the CBI in view of the alleged involvement of several influential persons against whom no action has yet been taken.
